See, there you go - those aren't fundamental GUI changes. BUT with the use of third party software, the look and feel of the Mac OS is infinitely customizable, Its not some Johnny-come-lately add-on to a 15 year old hardware design. That 15-year-old hardware design maintains compatibility. Ah, ahem...say what?

Some of them are, and some are not. Most of the common stuff is pretty easy to remember. Certainly, I find it much easier to remember TeX command names than I do to remember `how to operate the GUI' to get the same effect as a TeX command sequence in many cases. And in the case of a GUI-run wysiwyg WP,

Think of the GUI as an interface to (some of) the program's state. The service code reacts to changes in this state; so does the GUI code. At the moment (from what I can tell), XML specified GUIs manipulate a DOM. Which means that if you change the GUI structure you change the DOM and have to change the service

The problem with doing it this way (ie, not using native GUI calls) is that when the native GUI changes, your GUI does not. First step is to define a simple object model to ride on top of some middleware: CORBA and/or SOAP and/or Bonobo... The semantic level of this layer is what is left after abstracting away

PCGS wants to expand into European market
See, there you go - those aren't fundamental GUI changes. Why in the world would anyone want to fundamentally change the GUI? Its elegant, its simple, its straightforward. I can see changing some aspects of the interface to make it more compatible with the way one works, but to change it just to change it?

Great SWT Program
At this point the GUI becomes unresponsive - even to the point of being unable to minimize it to the system tray. I've been advised that a multi-thread concept in the code might be the best idea. I have tried spawning a "Worker" thread to do all the hard work while the main process handles any GUI changes,

I have checked the behaviour of the new code against the behaviour on an OPENSTEP system - and it all seems to work fine now (though I may hof course have missed some cases). Now the bad news - The change exposes various bugs in the gui and backend libraries where (presumably largely by trial and error) attempts

But what I would like to do in addition is notify the model when the GUI changes. This is also already part of Swing. If a GUI component changes, it calls the corresponding set...() method of the Model. For example, if the user selects some option using a combo box in the GUI, I'd like the model to set its
